James, Jesse (Woodson)

Знаменитый бандит, герой многочисленных вестернов [western], баллад и преданий. Во время Гражданской войны [Civil War] пятнадцатилетним подростком воевал на стороне конфедератов [Confederacy] в партизанском отряде У. Куонтрилла [Quantrill, William Clarke]. В 1866-79 вместе с братом Фрэнком возглавлял банду [James Gang], грабил банки и поезда от Арканзаса до Колорадо и Техаса; местные жители почитали его чуть ли не за Робина Гуда. За ним охотилась полиция многих штатов, а также агенты Пинкертона [Pinkerton National Detective Agency], которые в 1875 во время нападения на дом Джеймсов убили его младшего брата и искалечили мать. После очередного ограбления в штате Миннесота Джесси был вынужден скрываться в г. Сент-Луисе, где жил под именем мистера Хауарда [Mr. Howard]. Там его застрелил Р. Форд [Ford, Robert], бывший сообщник, ставший полицейским агентом и осведомителем
